- A new challenge for Northern Dimension Co-operation
Experiences and possibilities in North-West Russian regions

There are essential possibilities to improve energy efficiency and increase energy saving in the world. Investments in energy efficiency, rehabilitation of local heating and energy distribution systems, introduction of non conventional energy sources could be intensified also in Russia. A conference with 97 registered participants was held to discuss these issues and to find new ways of financing leading to more efficient and environmentally friendly use of energy.

The conference results will be reported to the key partners and actors in the Northern Dimension region and Europe: governments, the thematic working group on Energy Efficiency in the EU-Russia energy dialogue, the new regional partnership between EU and its North-Eastern neighbouring countries Northern Dimension, the Baltic Sea Region Energy Co-operation BASREC and to BEAC – the Barents Euro-Arctic Council. Conference findings will be reported to the BASREC ministerial meeting 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The conference programme consisted of discussions and presentations by experienced specialists from the financing sector, Russia, Nordic and European countries, the European Commission and international co-operation organisations.
